Loaded Waggler Handmade Fishing Float by Ian Lewis

Loaded Waggler

5 out of 5 by Paul Foster

“I purchased two loaded wagglers from you a couple of weeks ago. Firstly, as soon as I opened the packaging and cast my eyes over them it took me back to a bygone time of 40 years to my grandad's handmade floats. The floats absolutely ooze class, and the detail and precision is obvious as soon as you see and feel them. They are almost too good to use and would be ideally suited to being framed and placed on a wall to be admired by all. There is a saying in life that I regularly use which is totally appropriate to your floats, namely, "you pay for what you get". I can honestly say that to some people at first glance they may say these are pricey, but in reality, and I can vouch for them and proclaim that they are worth every penny. I have now used both floats on different waters, and in different conditions (calm and in strong winds), and they have performed admirably. Even at distance they are easily visible and the black whipping up the length of the stem highlight the slightest bite indication. What more could you ask for? I will be purchasing two further floats from you as a surprise xmas gift to my my fishing buddy. I cannot wait until I see his face as he opens the wrapping and casts his eyes on them for the first time and also sees his name inscribed on them, priceless! If anyone out there is undecided as to whether they should invest in one or more of your superb floats I thoroughly recommend that they purchase them immediately as they will not for one moment regret do”

Handmade Rhygini grayling float by Ian Lewis

Righyni Grayling Float - wire stem

5 out of 5 by Dale Lander

“VENUE: The River Derwent TARGET SPECIES: Grayling METHOD: Long Trotting I recently took stock of a Ian Lewis Righyni Grayling Float and decided that I would fish on a small section of my clubs river. The interesting part is that this part of the River Derwent is in the middle of the city of Derby. Run by the Earl Of Harrington, a club that has been controlling this stretch for the last century. The stretch I wanted to fish is known as the old river where the original stretch ran before it was diverted. This particular stretch is an oasis in the city and has been left for nature to run riot - overhanging willows and gravel runs are hometof a few large grayling, chub, barbel and the odd carp. I set up using my new centre pin and 4lb line straight through to a size 14 hook fixing the float on the line first with three silicone rubbers the shotting pattern on the float asked for 4 AAA but when fishing this type of float I always break the pattern down to BB shot in the end the float just required 6 BB which is lighter than the float asks for which is expected on a hand built float. The float itself was a beautiful finish, which they always are - nice bright paint for my dodgy eyesight. Setting up the shot pattern I bulked all the BB shot in a line altogether about a foot from the hook as I do when I want the bait on the deck quickly. The swim itself averaged around four feet deep, there was a fair bit of weed in the run down. I flicked the float out it cocked nice and straight and pulled the line cleanly off the pin as it trundled down the river. Maybe half a dozen trots down it buried, I struck, into what felt like a decent grayling using every trick in the book to wriggle off in the strong current. Netting the fish I found it to be around 12 ounces. Probably about ten minutes later the float buried again, I struck - this felt considerably larger and it tore off under the nearest willow. I managed to keep pressure on him and bring him out cursing all the time that he didn’t break me off and nick my float. It was a chub about three pound. I slipped him back and carried on, the bright orange tip once again disappeared, this creature was a really wild thing tearing round the swim jumping and thrashing - it was a proper wild Brown Trout maybe a pound and a half, lovely colours and spots. Fishing on I had a few more more bites but these got less and less as the sun rose in the sky. I packed up. The float did its job brilliantly. This is the way I will go in my float fishing - handmade’s outperform the mass produced floats by a mile in both performance and looks. Worth every penny. Dale Lander”

Handmade balsa perch floats by Ian lewis

Bob - Balsa

5 out of 5 by Thomas Rowan

“At 73 years old, a heart condition has stopped me enjoying fly fishing for trout as I once did. These balsa bob floats allow me to trot worms, something I really enjoy doing and I can see these floats clearly out to 100 yards downstream! I have had some wonderful catches using them and landed trout to 4lb, a truly magical river trout. I regularly see bites out to 80 yards - these floats are absolutely superb - they remind me of when I were a lad.”

Handmade Oak fishing float box

Oak Float Box - size 12

5 out of 5 by Alan Copeland

“I recently bought a personalised oak float box complete with a selection of 16 floats for a good friend's 50th birthday. As I have little fishing knowledge myself I relied on Ian's expert guidance when selecting the floats and I was not disappointed. The floats themselves are superb and ooze quality; as well as being highly functional they are a visual treat. Combined with the high quality oak box this made for an exceptional gift and my friend was absolutely delighted. I would thoroughly recommend these beautifully made products to anyone.”

“My day out with Ian's Floats.... Arrived at my local pond 13:00 friday ,weather was over cast ,slight breeze.. water temp 7c ,decided to fish the pole at 14m... 45 mins in had no luck whats so ever...decided i needed to get futher out than the pole ,so this was a perfect opportunity to try out Ians Wagglers ,i had purchased 3 of the cork ones ,i attached a clip on waggler widget and tested all 3 ..... they were all very consistant in size/look/ weight ....so cast out a good 20/25 m ,the floats are very aero dynamic and flew straight out no problem ,put my line clip on and balled in a few small lumps of ground bait .. 15 mins in i was into a fish ,just a small roach but a fish all the same so cast out again, the floats settle quickly and gives a nice presentation for maggots/pinkys to drop...another roach, next came out a small hybrid on double pinkys so kept to this and it was fish a chuck all skimmers ,for the next hour it was solid fish until i bumped a couple off ,by now the wind was up the rain was coming in and i was losing the light so decided to call it a day ,but altogether a great session looking forward to trying out my quill float next”

Handmade Oak fishing float box

Oak Float Box - size 12

“Today's commercial floats are functional and just a tad boring . Recent acquisitions from Ian Lewis, another avid believer in the great Billy Lane, is more than refreshing. Both floats and presentation boxes are of top quality. The care and attention applied to these floats is remarkable , and as a senior citizen I recommend the younger generation to " get wiv it !"”

Doughnut

5 out of 5 by Philip Shepherd

“I fished your special waggler today for a few hours in a breeze then getting worse into choppy swim, I set up my centrepin on 17ft rod using my weighted float adapter. Adapter was set at 4 1/2 AAA wit a no 4 and 3no 10s spaced out, casting was easy with a little plop on entry. And very little sink on hitting surface, handled well in the wind and tow. Small roach with delicate bites were easy to see and most of the time they self hooked due to pulling the disc on the float. Lift bites were very easily picked up and connected. Great float that will be used on my Tench trips in April due to the positive lift bite. Many thanks for a positive model float”

Handmade windbeater fishing floats by Ian Lewis

Roach Floats

5 out of 5 by Philip Shepherd

“Ian, the floats arrived right on time as usual and in mint condition, my planned outing for early this week was a local water known for a good head of Rudd and this being my target fish for the day I was looking forward to fishing on the drop up in the water. Set up the 17ft match rod with centre pin with 4lb line and the middle size self cocking float, float adaptor and 3 no 10's button hole style to 3ft drop. From the off I was picking up roach and Rudd but only small stuff, after continually feeding maggots and caster I started to pick up a better stamp but unfortunately I left my trusty phone and camera. Had well over 100 fish and tired myself out on a truly rewarding day. Well done Ian the floats worked a treat and didn't falter on a non stop session.”

Crucian Mini Dart

5 out of 5 by Alan Lawrence

“Hi Ian, Those mini darts I acquired from you are just perfect for fishing the margins for carp. Using one as a slider, and casting tight to a overhanging bush, helped me catch four carp from 14lb 14oz to 22lb 12oz. Strong and perfect for this type of fishing!”

Billy Lane Duckers Deluxe replicas

5 out of 5 by Craig Palmer

“What exceptional floats these are. I received the Billy Lane Ducker by Ian Lewis and I must say the craftsmanship is outstanding. I fished Rough's pond on my local club water using a centre pin using Dinsmore egg shot the float settled perfect at 4.5BB. Water was like a mill pond so if a ripple on the water 4BB would be sufficient The float cast well and proved sensitive registering bite's. Exceptional day with plenty of fish landed from roach, gudgeon, perch, skimmer's, rudd, chub & bronze bream (first on the pin)”

Insert Wagglers - Sarkanda Reed

5 out of 5 by Craig Palmer

“Today 06/08/15 i used the Ian Lewis Sarkanda reed insert float (orange tip) 4BB approx, i found this float to be exceptional to see when fishing around two rod length's out, but it only needed just over 3BB to set it perfect with around 10mm of the tip showing. As normal with Ian's Sarkanda float's bite detection was spot on when catching roach, rudd, gudgeon, skimmer's, perch & my first common/mirror carp on the pin. In my opinion these float's are amazing.”

Crucian Mini Dart

5 out of 5 by Phil Rimmer

“Excellent margins float and just the right weight for effectively fishing lillies a rod's length out. Clearly shows both delicate Crucian bites as well as lift bites from Crucian and Tench.”

Crucian Mini Dart

5 out of 5 by Paul Crawshaw

“A great looking and well made float which is also a perfect length and weight for margin fishing for crucians and tench.Very sensitive for shy crucians but also gives lift bite indication when required too for tench. My only float when using my long rod and centerpin reel.tight lines !!”
