About the Maker

After a 25 year career in the world of video and African safari's, I made the bold move to follow what became and continues to be my true passion - float making.
I am now one of the most established of the few remaining full-time professional float-makers in England, (we really are a heritage breed).
Since 2014 I have produced floats full time for anglers across the UK and around the world (24 countries and counting), each one being shaped, finished, and tested by hand in my workshop.
Every aspect of my float production is handmade - every float eye , every body and even many of the paints I use are blended my me.
I work with natural materials such as cane, quill, balsa and cork, treating every float with the same care and attention to detail. Many designs are my own; others come from ideas shared by fellow anglers who love traditional float fishing as much as I do.
Every year I take on several 'projects' - new designs made to a customers exact requests and more often than not, a one off project that no one else will ever have. While these are time consuming and probably not the most financially viable things for me to take on - the passion kicks in, the love of a challenge and the thrill of creating something totally new and helping that angler achieve their goals (all helped along with a large dose of ADHD that means I am always chasing the next thing that interests me!)
If you enjoy using floats that feel connected to the craft, the seasons and the water, I think you’ll enjoy using these floats as much as I enjoy making them.
