Signature Slant Handmade Bodied Waggler Fishing Float

Signature Slant – A Handmade Bodied Waggler with a Difference

The Signature Slant is one of my own distinctive takes on the traditional bodied waggler – a handmade fishing float designed to be as attractive to look at as it is effective to fish with.

Its defining feature is the unusual laminated body. I start with a balsa body which is split before a sheet of natural cork is set diagonally through it at approximately 45 degrees. The sections are bonded back together and shaped to produce the finished body, leaving the contrasting cork running at a striking angle through the balsa.

The result is a genuinely distinctive bodied waggler and a design that has become part of my Signature range.

The body is mounted onto a bamboo cane stem, with a stainless-steel bottom eye securely whipped into position by hand. Like my other floats, each Signature Slant is individually made and finished by me rather than mass produced.

Designed to Fish – Not Just to Look Good

Although its appearance makes the Signature Slant unusual, this is very much a practical fishing float.

Being attached at the bottom end only, the waggler arrangement allows the line to be sunk beneath the surface, helping to reduce the effects of surface drift and wind. The buoyant balsa and cork body provides considerably more carrying capacity than a slim straight waggler, allowing additional shot to be used and helping the float cast accurately when fishing at greater distances.

It is an excellent choice for general stillwater fishing and particularly well suited to tench, bream and carp, where a substantial, stable and highly visible float can be a real advantage.

The larger sizes can also be used as slider floats when fishing water too deep to comfortably cast a conventionally fixed waggler rig.

Four Cocking Weights

The Signature Slant is now handmade in four sizes:

6 × No.1 (7.5'') – 7BB (7.5'') – 5AAA (8.0'') – 5SSG (10.0'')

This gives you a useful choice ranging from a relatively light bodied waggler through to a substantial float capable of carrying considerably more shot for greater distance or deeper water.

A choice of sight-tip colours is also available, allowing you to select a colour to suit your eyesight, fishing conditions and background.

Handmade from Natural Materials

Every Signature Slant is individually made using balsa, natural cork and bamboo cane, together with a stainless-steel bottom eye.

Because I work with natural materials rather than moulded plastic components, no two floats will ever be completely identical. Small variations in grain, cork and finish are part of the character of a genuinely handmade fishing float.

The Signature Slant combines traditional float-making materials with an unusual contemporary design – a practical bodied waggler that is unmistakably different from something produced on a factory line.
